Standing on My Own

After spending so long waiting, I began to understand that there was one thing I should not wait for. My own life.

I wanted to go back to work. I wanted to have my own income. And I wanted to learn new things, so that I would have more opportunities in the future.

I didn't start because I don't need anyone. I started because I wanted to be myself again.

I wanted work that would make me feel proud of myself. I wanted to improve my language. I wanted to learn new skills. And I wanted to build a future where I could stand on my own.

I want to be a woman who can stand beside the person I love. Not out of fear of being left, but with the confidence that I have value too, and a life of my own.

I don't know what the future of this love will be, and I cannot control what someone else thinks or decides.

But one thing I can choose is how I take care of my own life, and how I keep moving forward.

Maybe starting over doesn't mean we have to leave everything behind. Maybe it means bringing ourselves back, and starting again to build the life we want.

This is the day I began to stand on my own.

And this may be only the beginning of a new chapter in my story.
